In 1993, a group of friends in San Diego conceived the idea of Baja Bound with the aim of making a positive impact on both sides of the border. Since then, they have been actively involved in communities across Tijuana, Tecate, and Ensenada. In 2004, we recognized the pressing needs of immigrant communities migrating north to work in Baja's agricultural fields. Impoverished migrant families from Southern Mexico often head north to Ensenada in search of a better life. If they make it, many live in unsafe, makeshift homes that leak in the rain and roast in the heat. Baja Bound has developed a system where teams can join their crew and build a safe, solid, and sustainable home for an entire family in a five-day trip. During our time in Ensenada, we will also be visiting two local CrossFit gyms for “faith and fitness” sessions, where team members will have a chance to share their faith. While we serve, we'll also learn about Baja Ed, which creates educational opportunities for at-risk youth.
